Why Can't Bots Read our CAPTCHAs?

Publishers of all sizes utilize CAPTCHAs (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) as the de facto solution to filter out fraudulent transactions emanating from automated – and often malicious – programs otherwise known as bots.

Bots employ Optical Character Recognition (OCR) to defeat CAPTCHAs and have been shown to be especially adept at defeating static CAPTCHAs such as those used by Google, Microsoft, AOL, and others.
